MASSAGE MODALITIES

Swedish Relaxation-is based on the Western  concepts of anatomy and physiology
and employs the traditional  manipulative techniques of effleurage, petrissage, vibration, friction, and tapotement.  Movements can be slow and gentle, vigorous or bracing, according to the results the practitioner wishes to achieve.

Deep Tissue-Deep pressure is usually applied with the thumb, a braced finger, or occasionally  with the elbow. It is used effectively to treat tender points that might be found in muscle, fascia, tendon, ligaments, joint capsules, and periosteum.  If pressure on a point causes pain to radiate or refer to another area, that point is considered to be a trigger  point.

Trigger Point-Pressure is used on trigger points to deactivate them and increase function to the referred area.  Stress points are tender points that are usually associated with microtrauma or spasms in the muscle. When the point is located, pressure, determined by the tolerance of the client and the condition of the tissue, is applied directly  into the point. The intensity of discomfort is rated on a scale of one to ten, one being the least.  Starting at a  rate of  five or  six  and maintaining  constant pressure for a  short time, the intensity will decrease to about two.  This signifies that the point has been  deactivated and treatment may be continued.

Hydrotherapy-is the application of water in any of its three forms to the body for therapeutic purposes. The use of parafin, salt scrubs, heating pads, ice paks, and moist heat applications are all  forms of hydrotherapy.

Athletic Massage-the goal of athletic massage is to enhance the athlete's performance which is regulated by the efficiency, precision, and freedom with which the athlete is able to move. Restrictions from pain, spasms, and tension inhibit freedom of movement.  Massage reduces many of these restrictions.

Prenatal Massage-in normal healthy pregnancies,  proves to be beneficial to both mother and unborn child.  Properly applied, it can aid in relaxation, benefit circulation, and soothe nerves.

Seated Massage-is performed with the client sitting in an upright position.  Oils are not used and disrobing is not necessary.  Great  short treatments.
